Mavericks news: Niko Harrison gets fired
As it is The buzz surrounding the release of Nick Harrison by the Dallas Mavericks continues in speculation and reporting, the latest could signal that change is imminent. With Harrison’s job with the Mavericks is a hot topic as for his job security, it looks like his firing will be announced soon.
NBA insider Marc Stein would take to X, formerly Twitter, to say that Dallas’ firing of Harrison “inevitable.”
“Nick Harrison’s exit from the Mavericks as GM after four-plus seasons is considered imminent and could happen as soon as (Stein’s line) finds out today,” Stein wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Not long after, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Harrison would be released “at a meeting at 10 a.m. central time on Tuesday.”
“The Dallas Mavericks and owner Patrick Dumont are expected to fire general manager Nick Harrison at a meeting Tuesday at 10 a.m. Central time, sources tell me and Tim McMahon,” Charania wrote on X.
There’s no question that Harrison’s tenure with the team was overshadowed by the shocking trade deal nearly a year ago Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. A move that is even owned by Patrick Dumoni “accepted as error” on Monday to the fan.
“The Mavericks are firing Harrison nine months after the shocking and stunning trade of Luka Doncic — a move that Dumont took responsibility for and acknowledged as a mistake in his courtside interaction with fans Monday night,” Charania wrote.
Negativity surrounding Mavericks was ‘worrisome ownership’

While singing “Fire Nico” rained down from Mavericks fans Monday night, after a slow start to the season, the team appeared ready to make a change. Even Stein reported a few days ago that there was negativity around the team “wear and tear of property.”
“If Dumont ultimately decides that a midstream change is the best course of action — though it’s by no means clear at this point where the Mavericks would turn in terms of a long-term successor — the move is believed to be made not only for the potential to change the vibe and as a means of trying to win over alienated fans,” Stein wrote.
With Harrison now fired, Dallas is looking to chart a course and revive their season as they now search for a new general manager. The Mavericks are currently 3-8 as the team faces the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.
