Owner dropped Anthony Davis, Nico Harrison in injury return against Wizards
on tuesday, Finally, the Dallas Mavericks made the move that many fans were asking for firing Nick Harrison from his position as general manager of the team. The decision, first reported by ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, brings to an end a disastrous era in which superstar Luka Doncic’s team was in a deal that quickly became the worst in recent sports history.
There has been much speculation about how closely Harrison worked with team owner Patrick Dumont on the trade, with some going so far as to speculate that it was Dumont’s direct order for Harrison to trade Doncic.
However, the two apparently haven’t seen eye to eye in recent weeks, to which he testifies a recent anecdote from NBA insider Mark Stein.
“Dumont, seen as a timely and striking illustration of the depth of the erosion of faith in Harrison ownership, stepped in over the weekend to prevent Davis from returning from a strained left calf and playing in Saturday’s eventual win over the Washington Wizards to protect himself from further injury,” Stein reported on Substack.
Stein also noted that “both Davis and Harrison wanted the 32-year-old to play; Dumont’s refusal to let that happen served as the clearest signal yet that he was finally ready to heed local residents who had been calling for Harrison’s ouster since the trade fell through.”
Big move for the Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks now have a general manager vacancy, and while they won’t be bringing back Luka Doncic, they can finally start thinking about how to proceed with a new voice in the front office.
Dallas is off to a terrible start this season, currently 3-8 despite a solid first few weeks for Rookie of the Year favorite Cooper Flagg.
Either way, the Mavericks will next take the floor on Wednesday night at home against the Phoenix Suns.
