Norman Powell crowned the ‘best thing’ to happen to Miami in 2025
MIAMI – S Andrew Wiggins hits the game-winning dunk for the Miami Heat to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers in overtime, 140-138, the team had many contributions that led to Monday night’s victory. As it is The heat feels different this season compared to last, one could point to many reasons, one of which is the supplement Norman Powell.
In addition to Miami introducing a new offensive philosophy, emphasizing a faster tempo and free-flowing system, the team still needs a leading scorer and shot on that side of the ball to function. Powell was that and more after another impressive outing, scoring 33 points on Monday, and Wiggins said the veteran was “the best thing about summer” for the team.
“It shows we’re a different team than last year, mentally, physically, you know, we’re a different team,” Wiggins said of the win over Cleveland. “We’ve got a lot of the same guys back. Norm was…that was the best thing about the summer. He was definitely the best thing about the summer. You know, just coming here, and you see what he’s been doing. Special kind of talent, great leader.”
Andrew Wiggins talks about how a win like this builds confidence. In another video, he says how this team differs mentally and physically.

In addition to his play on the floor, Powell’s energy was contagious as he had already developed relationships with his teammates and was “very loud”, like Jaime Jaquez Jr. he told ClutchPoints.
“He was very loud from the jump,” Jaquez said. “He came in here as the oldest guy on the team, and, you know, he let it be known. He’s got a lot of years, he’s got a lot of experience, and he doesn’t hesitate to share that with all of us. And just as a player, I’ve always been a fan of Norman’s game. Going back to Toronto, I’ve always called him when life gets easier for a professional scorer.
Asked by Jaime Jaquez Jr. about how Norman Powell is constantly present.
“He was very vocal from the jump. He came in here as the oldest guy on this team, and he made it known. . . . I’ve always been a fan of Norman’s game, going back to Toronto . . .” #HeatNation pic.tvitter.com/kUOzzJmKKt

The Heat’s Norman Powell brings a steady presence

With Race captain Bam Adebayo is still out with a toe injury and the hopefully soon-to-be-returned Tyler Hero, many have stepped up, but none more so than Powell, who leads the team with 24.5 points per game. Despite high-intensity situations like Monday’s against Cleveland, Powell brings a steady composure on top of being “powerful shooter”, as he said Erik Spoelstra.
“He’s such a proven, versatile, powerful shooter,” Spoelstra said. “He can do it in a lot of different ways. I like the versatility of his offensive talent. You know, he can run the ball, he can play the ball and he can play the pick-and-roll. Hv can play the drive game, catch and move. He can play against others. He’s developed this toolkit over his career because he’s had to play a lot of different roles, but he knows how to use a lot of different roles. But he knows too much how to use. Player aggression on them. We’re very thankful to have him.

Nikola Jovic would also note Powell’s game, mentioning how he never goes down, citing how he missed his first three shots of the game on Monday but finished with a huge game. The 22-year-old said Powell is the only shooter he has played with, aside from Hero.
Powell and Miami look to make it six straight at home in Wednesday’s rematch against Cleveland.
