A 7-word player confession reveals the truth about the impact of ‘Fire Nico’ songs on the team

on tuesday, The Dallas Mavericks fired general manager Nico Harrisonas reported by ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania. Many have longed for this move for some time, ever since Dallas sold Luka Dončić in February to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Since the Doncic trade, fans have gotten into the habit of chanting “Fire Nico” at Mavericks home games, and recently an anonymous Mavericks player got 100% honest on the toll road who took on the players themselves.

“These people don’t want us to win,” one player said, per ESPN’s Tim McMahon.

The Mavericks themselves certainly haven’t done a great job of giving fans a good product to root for so far this year, as the team is currently 3-8 after Monday night’s loss to the Milwaukee Bucks in heartbreaking fashion.

No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg is starting to look like a real deal, but injuries to Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, as well as a serious regression from guard Klay Thompson, have kept Dallas from being overly competitive so far this year.

It remains to be seen what direction the franchise will take now that Harrison is out of the picture, and whether they will look to continue his vision of building champions in the short term, or instead blow everything up and fully commit to building around Flagg.

The Mavericks will play their first game of the post-Nick Harrison era when they host the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night.
