Analyst calls for Bulls to trade Kobe White for Ja Morant
The NBA trade deadline a few more months, but one analyst has already suggested that the early success of the Chicago Bulls could warrant a big move sooner rather than later.
The Ringer’s Michael Pina suggested trade it would send Kobe White from Chicago and Zach Collins do Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for an All-Star point guard I Morant.
“I brought this up last week on the Zach Lowe show, and I understand why it’s not the most popular idea. Chicago would add about $9 million to this year’s payroll, but it would still be taxed. It would also add $87 million to its cap over the next two seasons. Is that the absolute worst way for Chicago to spend money? Especially if Morant is healthy right now? his three-point percentage, and Morant matches up with Buzelis, and you’re going to see the outlines of a very fun team with real abroad, but will soon sign a new contract that could exceed Morant’s total earnings.
“To the Bulls fans who are finally in the mood to watch their favorite team play every week and scream at me to keep my ideas to myself, I hear you. Chicago may finally be on the right track, and a trade for Morant could slow the momentum this young core is riding. But on the other hand, what can lose that Chicago talent this year from Chicago? The Pacers, or, more realistically, are they still a few rungs below the Cavaliers, The Knicks and a few other teams off to a slower start than expected?
The Bulls are 6-4 through their first 10 contests, thanks in large part to players like Josh Giddy and Tre Jones. White and Collins have yet to play this season due to injury.
Memphis went 4-7 to start the campaign and doesn’t seem ready to make the playoffs. Morant averaged 19.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists through the first 10 games of the year.
Despite the recent trade, it is not entirely known if the Grizzlies were willing to deal Morant this early in the season, but his talent would certainly add another dimension to a Chicago group that could be on the right track.
