Egor Demin is gaining weight
During the first four matches of his career, Egor Demin shot only 3 points, as if the border prevented him from approaching the circle. Finally, he managed to cross it even if his comfort zone remains behind the line.
After ten games, the Nets rookie attempted 24 shots, including 18 3-pointers. But his last two outings, against New York and Toronto, have been satisfactory. Against the Raptors, the Russian had the best game with 16 points (5/11 shooting, 4/8 on 3-pointers), 5 assists and 4 rebounds.
“We all think he belongs here. I’m very happy with his current situation, what he’s showing, his aggressiveness.” he rejoices Jordi Fernandez. “He made five passes while losing just one ball against a very aggressive, very physical defense, which shows that he has improved. Now the challenge is to maintain this level. Then we will have to be more efficient in defense and learn from our time.”
Little by little, he goes into the deep end
As Cam Thomas is out in a few days, Egor Demin can acquire responsibilities, pick-and-roll opportunities and depth. Having started in three matches, he is averaging 11.3 points and 5 assists, 48% shooting success and 47% three-point shooting, in 25 minutes.
“Everything comes with rehearsals”points out the 19-year-old Russian. “That’s a big part of my transition to get to this level: getting used to these things, these new things in the pick-and-roll, the physicality, the defensive coverages, the pressure on the ball carrier. They try to rush me because they know I can lose balls sometimes. But I’m getting more comfortable, that’s for sure.”
The upside for Egor Demin is that he doesn’t really have any pressure, as the Nets are already coming into the season with no results (one win in eleven games…) and especially with their eyes on the 2026 draft.
“Some of his actions particularly struck me, his way of shooting, his positioning”insists his coach, who therefore appreciates what he sees. “He has to be more of an action than a reaction. He is intelligent, we will keep pushing him and he will succeed.”
