Cardinals Jeff Brohm in contract extension talks

The Cardinals’ rush under Jeff Brohm has already produced history that is Louisville’s football team hasn’t been touched since Lamar Jackson era, when they stunned No. 2 Miami 24-21 in October, an older result, but an upset signing that still determines where this program goes.

Louisville football team and head coach Jeff Brohm they are now discussing a contract extension to keep the former Cardinals quarterback at the helm, according to On3 reporters Chris Lowe, Brett McMurphy and Pete Nakos.

In his third year at his alma mater, Brohm has Louisville at 7-2 and squarely in the College Football Playoff conversation. He’s 26-10 over three seasons, has been linked to openers like Penn State and Florida during the Power Conference’s frenetic nine-search carousel, and, crucially, no ACC coach has won more league games since 2023. He’s 4-2 against top-five AP opponents and currently makes $4-3.3 million nationally, and $4-3.9 million nationally.

Brohm’s public stance has remained steady: He talks about the “good resources” in Louisville and keeps his focus on the next game. The resume matches the message for him. He became the first Power 4 coach to lead different teams to back-to-back conference titles, doing so with Purdue in 2022 and Louisville in 2023, and Louisville’s loss at Miami as a 13.5-point underdog this year served as the latest proof of concept for his build.

What stands out about Brohm in Louisville is the mix. He’s developed quarterbacks, especially Tyler Shoff and Miller Moss, while mixing in portal wins with high school recruiting. It remains a family business, with brothers Brian and Greg on the staff and his son Brady working on the staff and recruiting, a continuity that usually shows up on Saturdays in situational solutions and quarterback-friendly answers.

There were bumps, and the timing of overtime is important as the ACC cannibalized itself. Louisville’s overtime loss to Cal put the fan base to the test. Local voices questioned quarterback play under Brohm and warned of a drop in the rankings even with Miami’s scalp on the wall. League parity means the committee will maintain consistency of analysis as much as the ceiling.

If Louisville closes, the calculation is simple. Enter an architect who has already raised the floor, continues to win big games and has a reputation for finding quarterbacks in an era where it’s the whole game. That is what the expansion would signal.
