Gilbert Arenas tips Dallas to ‘turn it off’ in 2025-26 amid early season struggles

Wednesday night, Dallas Mavericks dropped to 3-9 with a mostly uncompetitive home loss to the Phoenix Suns. It was the first game the Mavericks had played since firing general manager Nick Harrison, but unfortunately, it didn’t give them enough impetus to get back into the win column.
Recently, a former NBA player Gilbert Arenas went on Gil’s Arena Show to break down what his strategy would be now if he was in charge of the Mavericks.
“I’m shutting him down. Anthony Davis, sit down. Kyrie get healthy, sit down. Cooper Flagg, do your thing,” Arenas told Gil’s Arena on X, formerly Twitter.
Both Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving are indeed out of the lineup right now due to injury, Davis with one he suffered earlier this season and Irving with a torn ACL he suffered near the end of last season, shortly after the infamous Luka Doncic trade that ultimately led to the cancellation of Harrison.
Although dumb luck landed them Flagg in the NBA draft, which Harrison ridiculously tried to claim was part of his vision, this year’s poor start ultimately made the writing on the wall regarding Harrison’s future too much to ignore.
Many have speculated that the Mavericks could now look to trade either Davis, Irving or both in hopes of bringing back future assets and building a youth movement around Flagg. Dallas owns their first-round pick in 2026, but won’t have it again until 2031, which could further motivate them to start fundraising now.
Either way, the Mavericks next take the floor Friday night at home against the similarly struggling Los Angeles Clippers. That game will begin at 8:30 PM ET.
