A priest sitting in Nick Harrison’s old spot couldn’t save Dallas against the Suns

Earlier this week, The Dallas Mavericks have finally fired general manager Nico Harrisonnine months after his disastrous trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. To justify the move, the Mavericks needed to win a championship at some point in the next few years, and their 3-9 start to the season wasn’t exactly a positive indication that it was on the horizon.

During Wednesday evening home loss to the Phoenix SunsThe Mavericks tried to bring some luck to the arena by having the priest sit in Harrison’s old spot, but even that he couldn’t stop the team from suffering another loss.

At this point, it’s unclear who the Mavericks will choose to take Nick Harrison’s place and try to usher in the next era of basketball in Dallas, but whoever it is will certainly have a lot going for them.

The good news for the Mavericks is that they have an excellent building block Cooper Flaggwho is off to a solid start to his rookie season, but other than that, there isn’t much to get excited about on this Dallas roster.

Many fans and pundits have suggested that the team consider trading Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving in an attempt to embrace the youth movement and possibly bottom out in the hunt for the top pick in next year’s NBA draft in 2026. Given how elite the top half of the Western Conference is right now, that might be the best way for Dallas to move forward.

However, it’s unclear what the potential return would be for Davis and Irving at this stage of their careers given their age and injury history.

Either way, the Mavericks will next take the floor on Friday at home against the Los Angeles Clippers. That game will begin at 8:30 PM ET.
