Anthony Davis remains questionable as trade rumors swirl

After their decision to fire managing director Nico Harrisonthe Dallas Mavericks have another big choice to make. Do they do everything possible to be competitive this season, or does ownership decide to rebuild? Anthony Davis is emerging as a trade candidate amid Harrison’s firing and the team’s 3-9 start to the 2025-26 campaign. Although, before potentially moving him, future suitors will want to answer some lingering questions about his health.
Well, on Thursday they are not clear. Davis is at it again listed as suspicious on the injury report as Dallas prepares for a Friday night meeting with the visiting Los Angeles Clippers. The four-time All-NBA first-teamer and three-time All-NBA defensive first-teamer has missed the last seven games with a left calf strain. The team has just one win in that span, against the 1-11 Washington Wizards, whose only win came against the Mavs on October 24th.
This franchise probably has no chance of making the playoffs unless Davis can play for an extended period of time. Counting on the 32-year-old’s durability seems almost impossible, and it may not be something the Mavericks want to do anymore.
Moreover, the star big man could always look for a new destination. He was traded away from the New Orleans Pelicans, and based on how things are going right now, there are bound to be questions about his future in Dallas. Anthony Davis didn’t ask for a trade, but his hometown Chicago Bulls already have one floated as a possible landing spot if termination occurs.
There are other teams also willing to gamble on the 2020 NBA champion, who is just two seasons removed from averaging 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.3 blocks. However, right now he has to focus on getting back into action. Mavericks fans will await a final decision on Davis’ status for the Clippers game.
