Dillon Brooks’ energy electrifies the Suns against the Pacers

Dillon BrooksAgainst the Pacers, Dillon Brooks set the tone from the beginning. The winger scored 12 points in the first quarter alone, missing just two shots, and allowed the Suns to quickly gain a ten-point lead.

In the second act, he continued the momentum with an unbalanced 2+1 in the final minute, a move that impressed Pacers coach Rick Carlisle.

“Dillon Brooks made some really tough shots, shots you want him to make. He was making contested shots. On nights when the opposing team makes shots like that, you have to live with it and try to do it differently, but we didn’t do it tonight.” the Indianapolis coach commented.

At the break, Dillon Brooks already had 24 points on 9/13 shooting, including 3/6 from 3-point range. More subdued in the second half, in part because Devin Booker was responsible for putting his team out for good, the former Memphis player still finished with a season-high 32 points on 12-of-18 shooting.

“I knew it was back-to-back. I had energy and I felt the guys were missing it at the beginning of the match, so I wanted to set the tone.”he explains quietly. “That’s why we were able to stay in the game and get away.

Suns on the right track

Encouraged by the great play of the former Rockets player, the Suns easily dominated the Pacers (133–98) and achieved their fifth consecutive victory. They now have a record of 8 wins and 5 losses after 13 matches. Surprising results after a summer marked by the departure of Kevin Durant, especially since Jaylen Green has only played two games and is expected to miss about a month of competition.

“It was a good match for us, five wins in a row”underlines Dillon Brooks after the meeting. “We’re improving day by day and we still have tests. If we keep playing unselfishly, guys stay fit and keep that good momentum going, we can be in a good position going into the new year.”

And those famous tests are coming very soon: Three of the Suns’ next five games will come against opponents with a record close to Phoenix’s.

After Sunday’s duel against the Hawks, Jordan Ott’s men will face the Blazers (6-5), Wolves (7-4) and Rockets (7-3), not forgetting the reception of Spurs (8-3) Victor Wembanyama on November 23.
