Little crisis meeting in Portland
With four defeats in six matches, c Blazers they are going through a complicated period and the loss to the Rockets was too much. Indeed, after this failure, the players decided to organize a small meeting, to tell each other things. “Sometimes you have to know how to talk to yourself. We’re a family here and we have to say things to each other.”, noticed Danny Avdia.
It must be said that the numbers confirm that Portland’s players missed the deadline: 140 points scored, 20 turnovers, 20 offensive rebounds remaining in Houston and Alperen Sengun and the first loss of more than 10 points (-24) this season.
“This is the first match where we really got kicked in the ass”sums up Jrue Holiday. “We didn’t have a rhythm and it was weird. This is the first time we’ve felt like this. And we just wanted to talk about it.”
Prevention is better than cure
What did the players talk about? “What should we have done better”answers Jeremy Grant. “We played a very good team, so we mustn’t overreact. But we want to stay united, be on the same wavelength and not let matches slip away and make it more important.”
So don’t panic, this meeting was prevention rather than treatment. “It wasn’t a big deal”insists the former Detroiter. “We don’t do too much, but the first time we take more than 20 points, we want to make sure everyone is moving in the same direction.”
“No one has been shot. We are very positive about the season. We are doing good things. It is about staying together. It will be good if we follow the instructions and believe in everything.”adds Toumani Camara. “The season is long. We have to figure out what we’re doing right, what we’re doing wrong and keep talking to each other. It’s good to take time to talk to each other sometimes.”
The Blazers will have a real chance to bounce back on Sunday night when they face the Mavericks, who are still reeling from seven losses in eight games, including the last in double overtime against the Clippers.
