Bobby Marks points to Warriors’ Jimmy Butler trade as he cheers Anthony Davis trade market
Recently, the Dallas Mavericks fired CEO Nick Harrisonsignaling to some that the team was throwing in the towel on his “vision” of winning a championship with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis at the head. Davis is currently out roster due to injury, and many fans have suggested potential trade scenarios for the future Hall of Famer to help the Mavericks embrace a rebuild.
Some are skeptical how much Dallas could get back in a trade for the oft-injured Davis, but ESPN’s Bobby Marks recently pointed to another recent blockbuster NBA trade as evidence that things could work out well for the Mavericks.
“Despite his injury history, current salary and potential extension costs, there would be a market for Davis. Look at what happened last season with Jimmy Butler III and the Miami Heat. The then-35-year-old and his $48.8 million contract were traded to the Golden State Warriors and extended for two more seasons and $111 million,” Marks noted on ESPN.com.
However, some league leaders are not so optimistic.
“Even though you can point to Davis as a top-20 player in Los Angeles, it’s a $175 million gamble, maybe more, if you’re trading for him,” one West executive said. “I’d like to see a long stretch of Davis’ games healthy before there’s even a discussion.”
Strange time for the Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks had the opportunity to select Cooper Flegg in this year’s NBA draft, and so far the number one overall pick has played relatively well to open his rookie year.
However, the Mavericks are currently an ugly 4-10, and even with Davis and Irving in the lineup, this roster is unlikely to be anything close to a Western Conference contender.
This being the case, it would certainly make sense for the Mavericks to at least ask around and see what they could potentially get for the aging stars on their roster.
