It’s only a matter of time before Davis Webb becomes the head coach

The Denver Broncos they may not have their offensive pass coordinator after the season. According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelliser, Davies Webb quickly gained a reputation as one of the fastest growing coaching minds in the league — and his first head coaching opportunity could come as early as this January.

In an article published Wednesday, Pelissero detailed the Webbs rapid rise under the head coach Sean Paytonpraising his football intelligence, tireless work ethic and leadership in the development of the Broncos’ quarterbacks.

“He’s been on the fast track since Sean Payton hired him to be the quarterbacks coach in 2023 and was promoted this year. Payton even allowed Webb to play in the second preseason game — one in which a mostly secondary group put up 24 points in the first half against Arizona. Those who know Webb believe it’s a matter of when he’s going to be in the NFL.”

The Broncos assistant coach, now 30, has enjoyed one of the fastest coaching ascensions in recent NFL history. The former quarterback, who spent six seasons with the New York Giants, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills, retired in 2022 and will join Payton’s staff next offseason. Just a year later, he was promoted to offensive coordinator of the passing game – an unusually rapid rise for such a young coach.

Under Peyton’s tutelage, Webb was involved in designing the Broncos’ passing concepts and game plans, helping lead the team to its best start since winning Super Bowl 50. His success has caught the attention of front offices around the league, with multiple teams reportedly tracking him as a future head coaching candidate who combines a modern running back and advanced quarterback into a potential leader.

With the rise of the Broncos and the former six-year NFL quarterback-turned-coach continues to bolster his resume, it’s starting to feel like a matter of when, not if, his first head coaching opportunity will come — especially as league executives increasingly view him as one of the brightest young offensive minds in football.
