The players’ union rejects the “million” and keeps the pressure on

Naphisa Collier and Cathi Engelbert in the WNBASocial peace still seems far away WNBA. According to ESPNThe players’ union (VNBPA) does not consider the league’s latest proposal regarding the collective agreement to be a real step forward, while there are only ten days left until the expiration of the current contract, which has been extended until November 30…

First introduced par l’Associated press subsequently confirmed by ESPN, the league’s offer nevertheless highlights impressive salary increases: With the new revenue-sharing mechanism combined with base salaries, a player could theoretically earn more than $1.1 million in salary per season, with an average of $460,000 and a minimum of $220,000. By comparison, for the 2025 campaign, the minimum was $66,079 and the “supermax” reached $249,244.

But behind these amounts, the union sees above all a system that does not sufficiently follow the growth of the league. The players therefore demand a model close to the NBA model, where the “salary cap” is directly indexed to the revenue generated by the league. They reject a system that is considered too rigid.

The league, however, claims it has proposed guaranteed “salary cap” increases and “unlimited” revenue sharing, which allows for salary increases to match increases in profits. A harsh response from the union, which believes that the league “put lipstick on a pig” and recycles a model detached from reality.

The two sides are therefore continuing to talk, with the last meeting held on Wednesday, but either side can now terminate the agreement with 48 hours’ notice. The countdown is on.
