Bill Self posts an unfortunate Darrin Peterson update

The Kansas Jayhawks are off to a rough start to the 2025-26 campaign. Head coach Bill Self and his team started the year ranked 19th in the country. They could enter Week 3 of the season unranked after losses to North Carolina and Duke. I know that they are powerful squads; however, at 3-2, there are teams with better records at the moment. The good news is that Kansas has favorable opponents in sight.

The Players Era Championship begins next week in Las Vegas. This tournament is full of many elite teams. Kansas will play Notre Dame on Monday and Syracuse on Tuesday. Syracuse currently has one of the best defenses in the country, going 4-0 to start.

Other teams in the tournament include Tennessee, Baylor, St. John’s, Iowa State, Creighton, Michigan, Gonzaga, Alabama, San Diego State, Oregon, Auburn, Rutgers, Maryland, UNLV and, oh yeah, the number two team in the country, Houston.

Kansas could play either of those teams on Wednesday or Thursday. The bad news for Kansas is star Darrin Peterson will miss this tournament in Las Vegas, according to Self.

“Bill Self on Darrin Peterson: ‘We Won’t Have Darrin in Vegas.’ He adds that he’s close by and they hope he’s running and cutting while they’re in Vegas and coming back soon after…”

Kansas was extremely cautious with Peterson since the beginning of the season.
