Derrick Quinn hits a crazy behind-the-back pass for a shot by Trey Murphy III

Derrick Quinn showed off his passing skills during an incredible highlight with Trey Murphy III during New Orleans The Pelicans match in the NBA Cup against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night.

Quinn is rolling through his rookie season in the league, progressing as he gets more comfortable in the Pelicans’ rotation. He’s been getting more minutes recently as he gets chances in the starting lineup, showing his talent on both sides of the ball.

That was the case with one of his plays midway through the third quarter. He delivered a stunning pass from behind Murphy, who ended the play with a fierce two-handed dunk.

Despite sweet highlights from Derrick Quinn and Trey Murphy III, it wasn’t enough as the Pelicans lost 118-115 to the Mavericks.

New Orleans boasted a solid lead early in the game, with a 14-point lead at halftime. However, they gave up 36 points in the third quarter, giving Dallas the jumpstart they needed to make enough big plays in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Perimeter shooting, rebounding and ball movement made the difference in this matchup. The Mavericks won in all three categories, making 16 triples, 47 rebounds and 30 assists. It was not the same with the Pelicans, who made only seven three-pointers, grabbed 42 rebounds and dished out 25 assists.

Four players scored in double figures in the loss for New Orleans, including Quinn and Murphy. The former finished with statistics of 20 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds and two steals. He shot 8 of 17 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free throw line. The second followed with 25 points, three rebounds, three steals and a block. Zion Williamson was next with 22 points and three rebounds, while Jeremiah Fears scored 21 points and seven rebounds.

New Orleans fell to a 2-14 record on the season, sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference standings. They are one game behind the Sacramento Kings and 2.5 games behind the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Pelicans will try to end their eight-game skid in their next game, as they are at home. They host the Atlanta Hawks on November 22nd at 7pm ET.
