Angel McCoughtry asks Michael Porter if he “wants a cookie” in rebuttal to WNBA comment
Michael Porter Jr in a little warm water. Some of his comments this past offseason are resurfacing, particularly his remarks that cast a shadow over the quality of basketball in the WNBA. Back in September, Brooklyn Nets forward hinted that a group of the best high school players in the country would destroy the WNBA All-Star team.
Of course, at this point, this is just a hypothetical and there is simply no way to prove Porter’s insinuations. But perhaps the most sobering part of this is that Sophie Cunningham, a rotation player for the Indiana Fever, even agreed with the Nets forward’s commentssaying that Porter’s comments were “probably true” and that “men are just stronger, bigger, more athletic” so “if you put them up against women, they’re going to win.”
However, not everyone is content to just sit with Porter’s comments and take them lying down. Five-time WNBA All-Star Angel McCaughtry, who retired in 2022. pushed back to the Nets forward’s comments and, as the kids say, “watered the tea.”
“First of all, congratulations. You dominated against women in eighth grade. What does he want? He wants a cookie? You want a medal for that? The only thing that should come out of a man’s mouth about women is to uplift her,” McCaughtry said in an appearance on the Higher Learning podcast.
McCoughtry then called on Porter, as well as other men, to simply support and help grow the women’s game instead of starting pointless debates and pitting the sexes against each other.
“Guys, we’ve got practice guys coming in. You guys help us be more athletic. You guys help us be faster. You guys play great defense for us. We need you guys,” McCoughtry added.

Angel McCoughtry highlights Kobe Bryant’s example for the Nets’ MPJ to follow

Instead of retiring the women’s game, McCaughtry simply implored Porter to follow the lead of the late great Kobe Bryant.
“If you quickly notice the elite, Kobe Bryant didn’t say those things about us. He never did. He just lifted us up and supported us. LeBron doesn’t say those things. Why don’t the elites talk like that?” McCoughtry added.
That’s something Porter needs to think about. Ultimately, the Nets forward wants to be one of the best players in the NBA.
