Kevin Durant takes a fair shot at Stephen Curry



Kevin Durant shared his thoughts on Stephen Curry becomes a shoeless player and where the Warriors star should take his talents. Curry has parted ways with Under Armor after 13 yearsopening the door for a major sneaker move.

Durant appeared on Up & Adams with Kay Adams, where he conversation turned into Curry’s sneaker future. Adams asked about a potential Nike be on the table for the Warrior Guard.

“That would be amazing. I hope it happens. Yeah, he was supposed to — no disrespect to Under Armor — he was always supposed to be a Nike athlete,” Durant said, via Hoopshipe . “But he’s built his brand, and it’s an exciting time for him to be able to choose and have people who still want your services.”

Durant’s perspective carries significant weight given his history with Nike. The Rockets forward signed a lifetime deal with the brand in 2023, joining Michael Jordan and LeBron James in that exclusive ranks. His signature line has produced 18 models since the Zoom KD 1 debuted during his time in Oklahoma City.

The KD line has become a cornerstone of Nike’s basketball division. Groundbreaking models like the KD 4 featured memorable colorways that helped establish Durant as more than just a shooter, but a legitimate sneaker icon in the basketball world.

Curry’s journey with Under Armor began around 2013, after the infamous Nike flop. Reports suggest that Nike mispronounced his name and recycled another player’s presentation, convincing Curry to take a chance on the challenger brand instead.

The partnership initially took off when Curry One launched in 2015 along with his first MVP and Championship. Sales of Under Armour’s footwear soared during Curry’s back-to-back MVP seasons, pushing the company’s visibility and stock price to record highs in the mid-2010s.

In 2020, they turned his line into Curry Brand, positioning it similarly to Jordan Brand. However, Under Armour’s broader business eventually cooled despite the steady performance of the Curry line. By November 2025, the parties confirmed their split despite the earlier language.

Curry now independently owns the Curry brand and can explore new product partnerships. The 37-year-old continues to be elite on the court, averaging 28.6 points per game this season. Despite Golden State’s struggle to 9-9his continued dominance makes him very marketable for any potential sneaker deal.
