What Luka Doncic, the Lakers showdown means for Cooper Flegg
The Dallas Mavericks keep losing. On Monday night, they suffered their 14th loss of the 2025-26 season in 19 contests as the Mavs fell behind the Miami Heat, 106-102. Now, the Mavericks will have three full days off before taking the court again on Friday night in what will be a a huge showdown against Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers in NBA Cup action.
The Mavericks will be the visiting team in that contest, so that game won’t be a homecoming for Doncic. Doncic’s subplot will be the most prominent for that matchup, though, as it will be the first time he faces his former team since Nick Harrison was fired as Mavs general manager.
However, for the hyped rookie Mavericks Cooper Flaggthis upcoming matchup against the Lakers is it won’t be nothing more than another game for him.
“I would say, it’s another game. I know there’s going to be a lot of other things that go into that game and through the mindset of a lot of these guys and whatnot. To me, it’s just another game. I’m just trying to take it day by day, take it day by day, game by game. Right now, we’re just trying to find ways to find a way that My Flash,” My Flash said to News.
Flegg wasn’t even a member of the organization when the Mavericks traded Doncic anyway, so his stance makes sense. But with Dallas eyeing him as the star to get them out of this doldrums, he could learn firsthand that this will never be just another game from the perspective of Mavs fans.

Doncic will always be on the right track, but knowing how much of a competitor he is, he will always bring something more whenever he faces the Mavericks, a team that doubted him enough to trade him.
As for Flagg, he’s still in the early stages of his development as a starso it might be a little unfair to expect him to return the Mavericks to winning ways consistently in his rookie campaign.
