Kenyon Martin calls out Ja Morant for the Klay Thompson altercation

Kenyon Martin has a simple question for I Morant. When, exactly, did he become “hard”? On a recent episode of Gil’s Arena, former All-Star Kenyon Martin dropped by Memphis Grizzlies saves Ja Morant for his post game feud with Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson after Memphis’ 102-96 win in Dallas.

Morant, who was straining, got in Thompson’s face after the buzzer and flashed a bent arm at him as he knelt off the bench. Martin was not impressed.

“I want to know when Ya got hard,” Kenyon Martin said. “If you really want to smoke with him, don’t you? Why don’t you stick your arm all the way out? Why do you have a bend in your elbow to point at his face? You’re pretending to be tough and pretending to want a smoke with the guy.”

The clip caught fire because it repeated what Klay Thompson himself said after the game. Thompson, who had a season-high 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting and 6-of-12 from three in the loss, called Ja Morant a “funny guy” who “has a lot to say all the time, especially for a guy who rarely takes charge.”

The scene that started all this was already wild. Morant sat out most of the fourth quarter chirping from the sideand then stepped on Klay Thompson near midcourt after the final horn. Security and staff rushed over before it turned into anything more than words. Morant later crashed Cam Spencer’s postgame interviewtelling him, “Tell him who was the best shooter in the house. It wasn’t the Golden State bro.”

Currently, Klay Thompson has four rings and the last word. Ja Morant has the talent to change that story. At some point, though, the next chapter has to come from what he does on the floor, not off the bench.
