Nikola Jokic may be the best player of all time, says Stan Van Gundy

The The Denver Nuggets won for a strong start to the 2025-26 NBA season, currently at 13-4 after a recent road win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Nikola Jokić had another triple-double in that game, including an incredible pass in the final minutes to Peyton Watson for a layup that essentially put the game away.
Jokic has somehow found another level to elevate his game to this year and is quickly climbing the list of the best players not only of his generation, but NBA history as a whole.
Most recently, former NBA head coach and current commentator Stan Van Gundy broke where he thinks Jokic has the potential to make history in the game, according to The Ringer’s Zach Love.
“He might be the best player in NBA history,” Van Gundy said, per DNVR Nuggets on X, formerly Twitter.
“I understand you’re comparing players to how well they did in the era they played in. But the evolution of athletes is, we can probably say the 20 best basketball players have probably played in the last 20 years,” Van Gundy said.
While, of course, there’s no real way to measure who the greatest player of all time really is, Jokic certainly stakes his claim among them, and seems destined for a fourth MVP trophy this year if he continues to play at this level for the next 60 or so games.
Overall, the Nuggets are rounding into form overall, with Cameron Johnson finally starting to look a little more comfortable in his new jerseys and Jamal Murray playing some of the best basketball of his career after a relatively poor 2024-25.
Still, the Nuggets’ hopes rise and fall with Jokic’s play, and the fact that he’s already being brought into all-time great conversations is a testament to the sheer dominance he’s shown over the NBA landscape over the last few years.
