Vegas ‘expects to recall’ Carter Hart next week

The The Vegas Golden Knights continue to ride Akira Schmidt and Karl Lindbom in the absence of starter Adin Hill due to injury — but that dynamic could change very soon.
As TSN hockey insider Chris Johnston reported on Tuesday night’s episode of Trading Insider, it it’s only a matter of time to Carter Hart gets hit between the pipes.
“(Hart is) on track to resume his NHL career starting next week, when the official suspension is lifted by the NHL, on Dec. 1,” Johnston confirmed. “He is expected to be recalled by the Vegas Golden Knights. Hart has spent the last few weeks in the American Hockey League with their team in Henderson, getting regular practice time.
“He played in two games in the conditioning period, going 1-1 in those games, and should start again on Friday. After that point, the Golden Knights, who are without Adin Hill, are expected to recall Hart and start leaning on him. He hasn’t played in the league in nearly two years.”
Over the summer, Hart was cleared of sexual assault charges at the Canada 2018 world juniors and signed a two-year deal with the Golden Knights last month.
Hart began his career with the Philadelphia Flyers, and became a reliable No. 1 option with the team before his rights were waived in June 2024.
While it’s unclear what kind of reception Hart will receive when he returns to the National Hockey League, at his best, he’s the better option between Schmidt or Lindbom.
That being said, Schmidt has been more than solid for Vegas in 2025-26, winning nine of his 13 starts while posting a 2.45 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage. Lindbom, on the other hand, didn’t win any of his six appearances while posting a 3.16 GAA and .872 SV%.
The Golden Knights could soon bring back Mark Stone
If all goes according to plan, the Knights should be able to create a tandem of Hill and Hart at some point in the next few weeks. The team received more good news on Wednesday, as captain Mark Stone returned to training in a regular kit.
The 33-year-old had been incredible to start the season, collecting 13 points in just six games before suffering a wrist injury. He took charge on the second line alongside Mitch Marner and Brett Howden during Wednesday’s morning skate.

Stone could be an option as soon as Wednesday night against the visiting Ottawa Senators. If he’s not ready by then, he’ll likely play for the first time in more than a month against the Montreal Canadiens on Friday afternoon.
The Knights are currently 10-5-7 and in fourth place in the Pacific Division, four points behind the division-leading Anaheim Ducks. The team should become even more potent as Hart, Hill and Stone return to NHL action.
Schmid will start for Vegas on Wednesday; the puck should drop from T-Mobile Arena shortly after 10:00 PM ET.
