Landry Shamet is out with a shoulder injury

The New York Knicks have before Thanksgiving NBA injury backsliding on their hands. Landry Shamet fell hard against the Orlando Magic four nights ago. Now the Knicks know the extent of his injury as of Wednesday.

ESPN NBA insider Shems Charania revealed where things are now for Shamet and how it affects the Knicks’ depth.

“Shamet will be re-evaluated in four weeks with right shoulder sprain, sources tell ESPN,” Charania posted on social media website X, formerly known as Twitter.

His absence affects New York at the end of filming.

“Shamet was one of the league’s best shooters — 42.4% from 3 — and was emerging as a starter before he suffered a shoulder injury,” Charania said.

New York will not be part of Thursday’s holiday games. But they face the Charlotte Hornets before the holidays.

The Knicks and the new coach Mike Brown a new reliable scorer is needed in Shamet’s absence. And one to take the pressure off the top scorer Jalen Brunson.

That’s where Mikal Bridges enters the picture on the road.

Bridges made three of five field goals against Orlando — finishing with 18 points. Then he dropped 16 points in 33 minutes on Monday against the Brooklyn Nets. Karl Antony-Townes dominated the field against rival Empire State though.

Bridges also had a pair of 20-point outings: 22 against the Memphis Grizzlies and 23 against the Miami Heat. This season, he averages 16.3 points per game and gives 4.7 assists per game.
