Minnesota tries for PG trade. For now, it’s Edwards

The Minnesota Timberwolves are looking for answers, and one of the biggest remains unresolved: who should lead their offense long term?
Despite a stalled attempt to sign with the Memphis Grizzlies o I MorantMinnesota is still actively exploring the point guard market. The front office remains committed to improving its play, ball handling and late-game execution, areas that continue to limit the team’s ceiling.
For now, it’s the Timberwolves relying on Anthony Edwards as their primary driver. And while he is capable of rising to the moment, the structure remains imperfect.
Minnesota fell to 10-8 after a narrow loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, a game that once again highlighted a fundamental dilemma. Edwards had just six points on 1-of-5 shooting in the half as OKC sent traps, doubles and pressure on every touch. Without a secondary creator to relieve the pressure, the offense stalled.
Edwards adjusted in the second half, switching from anchor to scorer. He erupted for 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting, draining five 3-pointers, including 14 points in the final seven minutes. His late shot creation nearly stole the game.
But that’s the problem, right now, Minnesota needs Edwards to do everything.
According to multiple league insiders, Edwards and Jaden McDaniels are considered untouchables, indicating the franchise’s commitment to building around its two-way youth rather than panicking toward tearing it down.
While the Timberwolves believe they are close, the lack of a true point guard has kept them from joining the top tier of the West, a group headlined by Denver, OKC, the Lakers and Rockets.
For now, Edwards is the point guard, the closer and the engine.
But The message to the Minnesota League is clear: they call, listen and try.
Because if the Wolves want to be more than a playoff contender, the next move needs to be the right one, and soon.
