Lithuania scored a thrilling 89-88 victory against Great Britain in the first match of the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifiers in London.
Ignas Sargiunas, who topped the visitors’ table with 27 points, hit a crucial last-second three-pointer to complete a remarkable comeback after GB had dominated the first half.
Mark Steutel’s team led 51-38 at halftime, but Lithuania fought back after the restart, going 30-16 in the third quarter and leading 68-67 at the end.
They leveled at 75-75 before the GB players briefly regained control, only for fullback Sargiunas to become Lithuania’s hero and inflict a painful defeat on the hosts at the Copper Box Arena.
