Andre Drummond leaves the Nets game in a wheelchair

Andre DrummondBrooklyn’s Friday night revival season has hit a terrible hiatus. The Center of the Philadelphia 76ers left the game against Brooklyn Nets in the second quarter with a sprained right knee and will not return, according to Kyle Neubeck. He fell to the floor after a shot challenge, clutched his right leg and needed help in the locker room.

A few minutes later it became more worrying. Sixers beat reporter Kyle Neubeck reported on X that Drummond spotted in a wheelchair in the tunnel at Barclays Center, calling it “not great,” even noting that it might be a precaution.

Before the injury, Andre Drummond gave Philly exactly what it had relied on all season, with Joel Embiid out, toughness on the glass and an efficient offense. The veteran had seven points, four rebounds, one assist and one block in 11 minutes, hitting both of his field goals and all of his free throws.

Drummond entered Friday averaging 8.3 points and 10.7 rebounds in 16 games, per ESPN, starting with Embiid as the franchise cornerstone deals with lingering knee issues. The big man is back in a starring role, setting the paint and cleaning up misses for a modest roster.

Even without him, the 76ers controlled the first half, taking a 63-48 halftime lead behind hot shooting and a balanced offense. However, the mood around the team quickly changed.

With Joel Embiid already sidelined and rookie big man Adem Bona just returned from his own ankle problem, another frontcourt injury is the last thing the 76ers need. How serious this sprained knee will be will shape much more than one night in Brooklyn.
