The standings in the East of the NBA Cup were set after the Magic’s victory over the Pistons

We now know four teams coming from the Eastern Conference side NBA Cup.

Following Orlando Magic won away from home with 112-109 vs Detroit PistonsOrlando was confirmed to represent Group B, while the Toronto Raptors topped Group A, the New York Knicks finished atop Group C, and the Miami Heat, who finished second in Group C behind New York City, earned the lone Wild Card spot with a 3–1 record, the best of any non-group winner.

With the Raptors and Magic each going 4-0 in group play, point differential was used to decide the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds; Orlando has won four games by a combined 64 points, more than Toronto’s +55 point differential, which gave the Magic the top seed. As a result, Orlando will host the Heat, while Toronto will host the Knicks in Quarterfinals of the NBA Cup.

As was the case with the previous two versions of the tournament in the season, the winners of the quarterfinals will advance to Las Vegas, where the final four teams (two from the Western Conference and two from the East) will play. The semi-finals will be played on December 13, and the final on December 16.

It’s the first time either Toronto or Miami have advanced to the NBA Cup knockout stage, while it’s Orlando’s second straight appearance and New York’s third straight, the only team to do so regardless of conference.

Had the The Pistons beat the Magic easily last night’s NBA Cup Eastern Conference quarterfinalists would mirror the top four spots in the regular season standings. Currently, Detroit is one game ahead of the second place Raptors, two games ahead of the Heat and 2.5 games ahead of the Knicks. Orlando is tied for fifth with the Atlanta Hawks and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Both games of the NBA Cup β€” Magic-Heat and Raptors-Knicks β€” will be played on December 9.
