PJ Washington scratched against the Clippers
The Dallas Mavericks witnessed a huge lineup bump on Saturday before facing the Los Angeles Clippers. PJ Washington previously dealt with a shoulder injury two weeks ago for Dallas. But a new illness appeared before the game.
ClutchPoints NBA reporter Joey Mistretta revealed Washington’s latest setback before tipoff.
“PJ Washington has been scratched late with a right ankle injury and is questionable to play tonight against the Clippers, Mavericks announced,” Mistreta posted on the social network X, formerly Twitter.
Washington scratched the rest of the night. meanwhile, Klay Thompson has been upgraded to available after he appeared to be out. But Anthony Davis was also cut before facing the Clippers.
PJ Washington entering new role with Mavericks?
The forward arrived in Dallas a year ago via the Charlotte Hornets.
Now he was close to accepting the role from the Mavericks bench. Washington, however, has grown as a valuable scorer for Dallas.
He dropped 22 points against the Los Angeles Lakers in a 129-119 loss. Washington became even more stellar in the previous game — scoring 27 points in a loss to the Miami Heat. The New Orleans Pelicans even watched him drop them by 24.
The veteran entered Saturday off the back of three 20-point games over a four-game span during Thanksgiving week. Washington also had two other 20+ point contests earlier this season: 21 against the Portland Trail Blazers on Nov. 16 and 29 against the Houston Rockets on Nov. 3.
Dallas is currently a disappointing 5-15 overall this season. Los Angeles jumped out to an early 48-42 lead in the second quarter.
