Mavericks’ Klay Thompson is quietly turning the tide, overcoming an early season slump

A future hall of famer Klay Thompson endured a memorable start to the 2025-26 NBA season. One of the best three-point shooters of all time, Klay has been unable to consistently find the bottom of the net early in the new campaign. However, he has heated up in recent action, averaging 14.6 points per game on 43.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc over the past five games. On Saturday night, Thompson scored 23 points while connecting on six of his 10 three-point attempts in Dallas Mavericks‘ 114-110 beat the Los Angeles Clippers.
“I knew I had to play a game like this,” Thompson he told reporters after the win,” where I’m shooting the ball effectively. I know it’s still in me to swing games in our favor and help us win. It’s crazy because I didn’t feel good after last night’s game and I was thinking about sitting. But then I said, ‘Man, I’m playing 20, 25 minutes. I’ve got to be there, I’ve got to be there.
At 35, Thompson decided to play in a second straight game for a struggling Mavs team. He’s already destined for the Hall of Fame. He won four championships. Still, in the November contest, Thompson wanted to be there for his teammates and ended up playing a key role in the Mavs’ victory.
In fact, Thompson was initially ruled out for the Clippers matchup before eventually being ruled out is upgraded to available. Without Thompson, the Clippers loss would be a challenge without a doubt.
Rookie Cooper Flagg led the offensehowever. This 18-year-old led all scorers with 35 points, and he also recorded eight rebounds.
Despite playing without Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving and numerous other players, Flagg and Thompson helped the Mavericks get a big road win. Dallas now holds an overall record of 6-15.
Thompson will look to continue his recovery from an early season slump on Monday night against the Nuggets in Denver.
