Jaylen Brown reveals why ‘the best is yet to come’ after Knicks win

BOSTON — 2025-26 Boston Celtics they are not blasphemers. They won’t regularly shut out teams like the 2023-24 Celtics who won championships in dominant fashion. however, they will give their best effort almost every night and stay in the fight, which was evident during Tuesday night’s gutsy 123-117 victory over the New York Knicks.
Although the C’s can’t really match the talent of the Knicks at this point with Star forward Jayson Tatum is on indefinite holdthey are able to outscore their Atlantic Division rival. And the Celtics’ recent wins over Eastern Conference contenders like the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers prove their resilience against the Knicks wasn’t just a one-off.
“We deserved to win tonight,” Celtics star Jailen Brown he stated after upsetting the Knicks. “We were a team with more difficult games.
Boston showed its determination from the start, as it followed a poor first quarter full of turnovers and poor shooting with a 37-point outburst in the second frame, erased New York’s early 14-point lead and went up by six at halftime.

Of course, a star-studded team like the Knicks didn’t want to accept defeat. They came back in the fourth quarter to cut the Celtics’ lead to just three points with just under three minutes left. The TD Garden faithful groaned, recalling their team’s multiple blown leads in the 2025 Eastern Conference semifinals. it made the Knicks win six games.
How the Celtics shook off deja vu against the Knicks
However, Brown would not let history repeat itself. On the next possession, he found it Celtic winger Jordan Walsh opened in the corner and relied on him to make the play. The 21-year-old provided a tough shot at the rim to give the Celtics a five-point lead again.
That show of confidence perfectly demonstrated how much the Celtics have improved since the start of the season.
“It’s only been 20 games, and there’s been tremendous growth from a lot of guys, Nimmy (Kate), Jordan (Walsh), Josh (Minot), even Baylor (Scheyerman), Peyton (Pritchard),” Brown stated.
Of course, Brown is modest when discussing others. He didn’t do it alone, but there’s no question who wanted the C’s for most of their wins. In fact, the 2024 NBA Finals MVP finished with a record 42 points (on 66.6% shooting from the field) on Tuesday night and sealed the win with a wide dunk with two seconds remaining.

Despite the constant heroics, Brown continued to focus on the team and how everyone is capable of more.
“We continue to take it one step at a time, but the best is yet to come,” he said.

Boston’s outlook wasn’t always this optimistic. To start the regular season, The Celtics were 0-3 — their worst start in more than a decade — and can’t get above .500 until mid-November. Fast forward to now, and the C’s are 12-9 overall, 7-3 in their last 10 games and 4-2 in their last six contests, all of which have been decided by 10 points or less.
“I mean, it’s easy to focus on what you’re seeing now, but if you go back to the preseason, before the season, we’re in a much different space now,” Brown said. “You can see the difference if you go back and watch some of those early games in the season.
There were many unknowns surrounding the Celtics heading into the 2025-26 campaign, and there are still many variables due to Tatum’s precarious health and the number of young players who are still adjusting to new roles. But this lack of safety is also a positive because the Celtics haven’t quite figured out what their ceiling is.
Brown and company just know they haven’t hit it yet.
“We showed flashes early,” Brown said of Boston’s potential. “It’s been there. It’s always been there. We just have to put it together, but just a little more consistently. I think that’s the nature of the league: How consistent can you be?”
