Bill Simmons presents Giannis Antetokounmpo-Hawks trade idea

The rumor mill was revolving around the Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo so far this season, especially given the rotten start to the campaign. Milwaukee is currently 9-13 heading into Wednesday night’s matchup against the Detroit Pistons, and Antetokounmpo was recently cleared much of the competition from his social media presence, which further sounds the alarm within the fan base.
Recently, sports media personality Bill Simmons of The Ringer took to his podcast to present potential business idea that would send Antetokounmpo to the Atlanta Hawks, a team that was reportedly interested in drafting him in 2013 before the Bucks swooped.
“It would be.” Trae YoungPorzingis, who points out. He’s making $30 (million), so that’s perfect for a trade. They have that Bucks pick, they 2027, the worst of the Bucks or New Orleans. They have all their firsts. So they can put together a top four, Trae Young, Porzingis point out, we’re going to bring Kuzma back. “Kuzma will be a tax on the Giannis trade,” Simmons said.
“For the Bucks, he’s like, Hey, Trae Young, he’s a fun guy on his team. He’s got two years left on his contract,” he added.
The Hawks have played well so far this year despite not having Young in the lineup, leading some to wonder if they might want to trade him.
It would certainly be a tough pill to swallow for the Hawks to give up their trade rights to the Bucks and Pelicans in a loaded 2026 NBA draft, but that may be the price of acquiring Antetokounmpo. The Porzingis trade hasn’t had much payoff so far, and the emergence of Onyeka Okongwu may help make the parting ways a little easier.
A matchup between Antetokounmpo and rising star Jalen Johnson would be interesting, to say the least, but in a league based on talent, the Hawks would have to at least consider the proposal put forward by Simmons if the Bucks were to offer it.
