“Do I still want to play? Yes, I want to play at least one more year,” Thomas said. “I’m staying fit, I’m staying in touch with a few teams, but I’m just playing by ear – I’m making sure I stay fit while I can still play at a high level, but I know there are other things going on.”

Thomas, who last appeared in the NBA during the 2023-24 season with the Phoenix Sunshas spent the past two seasons maintaining his fitness and staying in touch with teams that could use the veteran’s presence.

“My body is amazing. I’m healthy. I’m only 36 years old – I’ve got a few more years to play, but ideally I’d like to play one more year,” Thomas said.

He added that he remains focused solely on returning to the NBA, rather than exploring opportunities overseas.

“Yeah, the NBA for sure,” Thomas said.

When asked which teams he was in contact with, Thomas declined to give details.

“No, it’s a real insight,” he said. “So, just a few NBA teams.”

Thomas, a two-time All-Star, had one of the most inspiring careers in the league after being selected with the 60th and final pick in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings. That year, Thomas averaged 28.9 points, 5.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from three-point range in 76 games. He led Celtics to a 53-29 record, first seed in the Eastern Conference and a trip to the conference finalswhere they ended up falling to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games. Thomas finished fifth in MVP voting that season.
