Ja Morant fires back at ESPN report disparaging Tree Young, LaMelo Ball

On Wednesday, ESPN released a report detailing the opinions of several scouts and executives around the league, who predictably chose to remain unnamed, about the All-Star. point guard Ja MorantTrae Young and LaMelo Ball. The opinions and analysis were overwhelmingly negative and painted the three potential trade candidates in an unflattering light as their teams continue their 2025-26 seasons.

Now Morant went on the offensive, with the Grizzly star responding to the ESPN article with a post on his Instagram story.

“Strange times here. Stay awake. Love you guys,” he wrote, alongside a blue heart emoji. via HawksMuse on Xformerly Twitter.

Morant has never been shy about keeping his opinions to himself, and his Instagram story comes at a turbulent time for Memphis Grizzlies. Memphis is currently a few games under .500, and Morant has been in and out of the lineup due to injury and a suspension he served for publicly calling out the coaching staff.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks have performed well without Trae Young in the lineup due to a torn MCL, sparking trade chatter on that front, and LaMelo Ball recently reported that he’s unhappy with the Charlotte Hornets amid a rough start to their season.

All in all, Morant, Young and Ball were once thought to be the league’s next class of superstar point guards, and they could still be, given that they are all still entering or in their primes, and still possess elite talent. However, to say that things haven’t gone according to plan for the trio over the past few years would be an understatement.

It remains to be seen if the Grizzlies, Hawks or Hornets will ever really have fun trading away their star point guard.
