Doc Rivers is over Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors

Considering how things were going Milwaukee Bucks past few seasons, it probably wasn’t too much of a surprise that a report came out on Wednesday morning stating that The Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo have met about his future with a franchise. That obviously led to a lot of speculation about Giannis and a potential trade.

But the head coach of the Bucks Doc Rivers poured with cold water Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors, at least for now. Before the Bucks’ game against the Detroit Pistons, Rivers reiterated that the Bucks have not spoken to Giannis about a potential trade.

“So here we go again. There was no conversation,” Rivers said. “I want to be clear, I’d say it one more time, but for the 50th time… Giannis never asked to be traded, never. I can’t say it any clearer.”

While Rivers was adamant in his assertion that the Bucks’ franchise star never asked to be traded, The Bucks and New York Knicks reportedly held trade talks this offseason regarding a potential trade center around Antetokounmpo and Kyle Kuzma. Should Antetokounmpo become officially available on the trade market, the Bucks will likely have no shortage of suitors.

The nine-time All-Star was recently sidelined with a groin injury, but Antetokounmpo was expected to return to the Bucks’ lineup against the Pistons.

So far, he has appeared in 16 games, with a little more than 30 minutes per game. He averaged 30.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks on 63.9 percent shooting from the field, 43.5 percent from the 3-point line and 63 percent from the free throw line.
