Ryan Nembhard makes NBA history with a huge game against the Heat

The Dallas Mavericks may have found their new point guard in the Cooper Flag era, and Ryan Nembhardt showed why with a record night in a win against the Miami Heat. The undrafted rookie guard helped the Dallas Mavericks rookie group make a statement, becoming the first player in the modern draft era to record at least 15 points and 10 assists in back-to-back games, according to Elias Sports.
The former Gonzaga standout and brother of Pacers guard Andrew Nembhardt started his recent stretch with 28 points, 10 assists and zero turnovers in a win against the Denver Nuggets on Monday. He then followed up with 15 points and 13 assists in a 118-108 win over the Heat on Wednesday night. The Mavericks have now won three straight, and Nembhardt’s composure and efficiency have led their latest run.
SteinLine’s Marc Stein took to X (formerly known as Twitter), crediting Elias Sports with historical stats and highlighting the significance of Nembhard’s feat.
“Dallas’ Ryan Nembhard is the first undrafted rookie in the modern draft era (since 1967) with 15+ points and 10+ assists in back-to-back games,” @EliasSports says.
Against the heat, Nembhardt’s control of the offense stood out. His passing gave clean looks to teammates like Cooper Flagg, who scored 22 points, while Anthony Davis added 17 points and 17 rebounds. Outside of the results box, Nembhard delivered exactly what Dallas is he needs — a steady secondary playmaker who can orchestrate the offense and keep up with the best running backs around the league.
If the Mavericks can continue this streak, the emergence of the rookie could be a turning point in a season that is still searching for consistency and identity.
