Giannis Antetokounmpo out 2-4 weeks with calf injury

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will miss at least 2 to 4 weeks with a right lower legaccording to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Antetokounmpo’s injury happened Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons. About three minutes into the game, Giannis started running on defense after assisting AJ Green as he fell to the ground with a non-contact injury and immediately grabbed his right calf/Achilles area.
The Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee immediately fell silent as concern filled the arena. The good news is that Giannis was able to get up and limp to the Bucks locker room on his own, and the head coach Doc Rivers has ruled out an Achilles injury in his comments after the game. Milwaukee beat Detroit 117-111 without Giannis.
However, this injury is a significant blow to the Bucks for several reasons.
Aside from the fact that the Bucks need Giannis healthy and on the court to win games, he recently made NBA headlines on Wednesday when news broke that he had discussed his future with the organization.
Giannis and his agent, Alex Saratzis of the Octagon, have officially begun talks with the Bucks about the two-time MVP’s future and whether he’s best suited with them or somewhere in the NBA. Whether or not this dialogue will eventually lead to a formal trade request for Antetokounmpo is the main question every other team around the league is waiting to answer.
Over the years, Giannis’ future has been a key talking point in the NBA. His desire to win and Milwaukee’s struggles opened the door to the possibility that the nine-time All-Star might want a change of scenery, which is why “the writing is on the wall” for the departure of Antetokounmpo, according to Charani.
Antetokounmpo has already missed six games this season due to injury, and the Bucks have gone 1-5 without him on the floor. If Giannis misses the remaining 11 games on the Bucks’ schedule before the calendar turns to 2026, this team will be in serious danger of falling further down the Eastern Conference standings.
At 10-13 on the season and not proving to be a true championship threat, the buzz surrounding Giannis’ future while injured will continue to grow. Now that Giannis could be sidelined until December, his trade market and the immediate future of the Bucks have changed dramatically.
Despite all the talk about his future with Milwaukee being in jeopardy, Rivers and the organization continue to downplay such a drastic change in relation to Giannis.
“So here we go again … There was no conversation,” Rivers said of the Antetokounmpo trade rumors before Wednesday’s game. “I want to make it clear for the 50th time, and it’s clear that it’s not coming to one net, for sure: Giannis never asked to be traded. Never. I can’t say it any clearer.”
What the future holds for Giannis now comes down to his behind-the-scenes conversations with the Bucks and what he observes while he’s out with this calf injury. If the two-time MVP ends up requesting a trade, there will be a lot of interest in him throughout the NBA, and the trade market as a whole will freeze until his decision is made.
