Draymond Green leaves the 76ers game with a foot injury

The Golden State Warriors (11-11) are drowning in injury troubleas they watch another difference maker head into the locker room. Draymond Green had to leave Thursday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers (11-9) with a right leg problem and was eventually turned off by the end of the night, according to ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel.

Green’s failure is undoubtedly a big blow for a team that was already without Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler in this battle between East and West. While there are other capable contributors on this roster like Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga, the Warriors can only accomplish so much without their core trio. Green isn’t the flashy scorer that Curry and Butler are, but he’s the Dubs’ defensive engine and a valuable playmaker. Furthermore, the Dubs crave the energy he brings to the floor.

The four-time NBA champion recorded three points and a block in just nine minutes of play against the Sixers. It’s unlikely that Golden State will be able to get back into this contest, especially without their most important players. The Warriors found themselves in a 30-10 hole after the first quarter and never fully recovered. Barring a huge surge, they will fall below .500 for the first time this season.

Longtime head coach Steve Kerr knows how important it is for his team to avoid significant adversity, but older teams are clearly more susceptible to such a situation. The tough travel schedule probably only adds to the Dubs’ resentment. Draymond Green has already been upset about potentially missing the birth of his child, but his journey to Philadelphia became even more painful.

Stephen Curry is out with a quadriceps injury since Nov. 26 and Jimmy Butler missing the 76ers game with knee soreness, so the Warriors are in desperate need of some good news.
