Is Dallas too focused on Anthony Davis getting the ball? PG says yes
Dallas Mavericks rookie point guard Ryan Nembhardt said the team the offensive approach has become too focused to get Anthony Davis ball, offering an honest assessment after Friday night 132–111 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Nembhard, who had 10 points, four assists and three rebounds on 4-for-8 shooting in 24 minutes, addressed that question during his postgame presser when Ron Harrod Jr. of the DLLS Mavs asked him how the Mavericks can get the ball to Davis better when the defense is in front of him.
“Get a guy at the free throw line … there’s different ways to get the ball, but I think we’re a little too focused on getting him the ball. We could have done some other things and touched the paint and done some other things.”
Davis struggled throughout the matchfinished with two points, eight rebounds and six assists while shooting 1-for-9 from the field and 0-for-2 from the free throw line in 24 minutes. Oklahoma City’s defensive attention and physicality limited its scoring opportunities, contributing to Dallas’ inability to establish a rhythm in the half court.
