Victor Wembanyama will miss the Lakers game with a calf injury

When the news reported it Victor Wembanyama returned to training for the San Antonio Spursfans around the NBA have openly wondered if the two-time block champion could return to the court against the Los Angeles Lakers in NBA Cup Tournament.
On paper, things couldn’t have shaped up better from a narrative standpoint, pitting the brightest young star on a rookie contract against the face of the NBA in two decades, but alas, it shouldn’t have beenas Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reported on social media.
“Spurs’ Viktor Vembanjama (calf) is officially OUT for tomorrow’s NBA Cup game against Luka Doncic and the Lakers,” Siegel wrote.
One of the most long-awaited prospect to join the NBA in a very long timewith his pre-draft excitement rivaling that of King James two decades ago, Wembanyama picked up where he left off in 2024-25. when he suffered season-ending deep vein thrombosis in the right shoulder, averaged 26.2 points, 12.9 rebounds and 3.6 blocks in 34.7 minutes of action per game.
While his production has improved to career highs, the injury bug remains a constant in San Antonio, with Wemby missing last month with a calf injury. Fortunately, his calf appears to be slowly on the mend, and the 7-foot-4 phenom is back at practice as he works his way back into game shape. Unfortunately, his return won’t come against the Lakers, and the rest of the NBA Cup is still up in the air, depending on how far his team can go.
