Dylan Harper explains what’s so ‘great’ about playing for San Antonio

After San Antonio Spurs rookie Dylan Harper helped lead his team until the NBA Finals victory against the Los Angeles Lakers, he failed because of being a member of the organization. It’s safe to say Harper is enjoying his rookie season after advancing to the NBA Cup semifinals, where the Spurs will face the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday in Las Vegas.

After Wednesday’s win against the Lakers, Harper reflected on why he plays for the Spurs was such a blast for the NBA’s second overall pick, he said, per Hector Ledesma of ClutchPoints.

“Just being in this environment with this team is great. It’s a lot of fun playing with guys that you know are going to play for each other no matter what,” Harper said. “No ego. I wouldn’t want to be recruited anywhere else.”

Dylan Harper finished with 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal in the Spurs’ 132-109 win over the Lakers on Wednesday. Stephon Castle was the best with 30 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. De’Aaron Fox added 20 points, and reserve Keldon Johnson led the Spurs bench with 17 points.

Fourteen games into his rookie season, Harper is averaging 13.4 points on 48% shooting, 3.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game.

Spurs rookie Dylan Harper says his confidence has grown from the player he was during the early weeks of his NBA career. Harper is adjusting to the pace and approach of the league, which he says has been attacking him lately, coming off the bench for Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson.

“I just have that mindset on offense,” Harper said.

The Spurs rookie admitted his trepidation during his first weeks in the NBA.

“I think at the beginning of the year I was a little anxious, a little, like, hesitant,” Harper added. “Like, ‘Yeah, I’m the new guy, I’ll try to figure it out.’

The Spurs will take on the Thunder in the NBA Cup semifinals on Saturday.
