Will Kristaps Porzingis’ nagging illness ruin potential trade deals?
As Atlanta Hawks star Kristaps Porzingis will be out for another two weeks with his recent illness, there was speculation surrounding his status that he would be traded before the deadline. Although it is The Hawks’ big man in Porzingis quelled concerns that the illness would recurlike the one he dealt with with the Boston Celtics last season, an NBA insider touches on how that could affect business.
Marc Stein would talk about Porzingis and Atlanta on the latest edition of “The Stein Line,” saying that if Atlanta does any “significant trade work,” it’s “expected to include” Porzingis and his expiring contract. However, with the ongoing ailments facing Porzingis, it remains to be seen if that will throw a wrench in any interest.
“Any significant trade Atlanta makes during the offseason is expected to include the expiring $30.7 million contract of Kristaps Porzingis, but the Hawks announced Sunday that the Latvian big man will be sidelined for at least two more weeks as he continues to be plagued by an illness after similar adversity last season in previous games in Boston. Prior to the announcement,” Stein wrote.
The Hawks’ Kristaps Porzingis has dealt with the disease before

While it is The Hawks star has been dealing with a mysterious illness during his time with the Celtics last season, there was more information about what he was suffering from. When ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Porzingis was out for two more weeks, he would say he was diagnosed with “postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.”
“Porzingis was diagnosed with an autonomic condition, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), last season in Boston,” Charania wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “He and the doctors found solutions to manage his health over the summer and he entered the Hawks season in good shape – before the recent bout of illness.”
It remains to be seen exactly when Porzingis will return, having missed eight of the last nine games, but Atlanta currently sits at 15-12, which puts them in ninth place in the Eastern Conference. The Hawks next face the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday.
