Aggies name VR coach to replace Colin Klein

Like the Texas A&M Aggies are preparing for their first appearance in the College Football Playoffthe program clarified its offensive future on Monday, announcing an internal promotion.
The Aggies confirmed longtime wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins will step into the role of offensive coordinator.
“A new player in the game on the offensive side of the ball. Holmon Wiggins has been promoted to offensive coordinator.” Texas A&M posted on X, formerly Twitter.
The move comes after Colin Klein, who led the Aggies offense this season, accepted the job of head coach at Kansas State after the retirement of Chris Kliman. However, Klein will remain with the Aggies throughout the College Football Playoff and continue to call plays as Texas A&M prepares to host Miami.
Elko explained at his recent press conference that the promotion followed a wide search rather a hasty decision.
“I did a pretty extensive search for an offensive coordinator,” Coach Elko said. “We talked to five different candidates that run different offenses around the country and we really felt like the right person for the job was Holmon Wiggins. So we decided to elevate Holmon Wiggins to offensive coordinator. He’s the only person we offered the position to and he accepted it, so we’re excited to have him lead our offense into the future, he’s going to do the best job for Texas football going forward.”
Wiggins was a trusted member of Elk’s staff and he brings vast experience to the role. Before arriving in College Station last season, he spent five years at Alabama, serving as the Badgers’ running backs coach and assistant head offensive coach during the Crimson Tide’s recent championship run.
The promotion also reflects the recent continuity of the defense personnel. Elko subsequently promoted Lyle Hemphill to defensive coordinator Jay Bateman accepted the same position at Kentuckyand Bateman also stayed in the playoffs.
Seventh-seeded Texas A&M will host 10th-seeded Miami in a strong CFP matchup on Saturday, offering a high stage for stability on both sides of the ball.
While Klein leads the offense in the short term, Wiggins’ promotion signals where the Aggies believe their long-term offensive vision is headed as the program pushes deeper into national contention.
