Paul George applauds fans who call him washed up

Let me say Paul George defied expectations from landing with Philadelphia 76ers would be an understatement.

Originally landing in the City of Brotherly Love on a four-year max deal after an All-Star caliber with the Los Angeles Clippers, George appeared in just 51 games through Dec. 15 and posted some of the worst numbers of his career, averaging just 16.4 points, 4.1 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game over just 31.3 minutes of action per night.

Is PG-13 washed up? In his opinion, the answer is a resounding no, and in an interview with Sixerswire’s Kee Carlin, he explained how he used this as motivation to really get back on track in 2025.

“I mean, before I got here, I was coming off one of my most effective seasons. All-Star that year. I didn’t see them washing me that quickly, but I knew,” George said. “I knew this league is what you can do now, and they tend to forget everything I’ve done. So there was a little bit of motivation to go into the summer to just get healthy and let everything else take care of itself.”

So far in 2025-26, George actually has saw his number suddenly little while working from injury, with his points per game up .9, shooting percentage up .12, and 3-point shooting percentage up from 35.8 to 43.3 despite averaging 6.3 fewer minutes per game. He moved well despite what he has arthroscopic surgery on his knee a season ago, and showed his defensive versatility alongside younger stars like Tirese McKay, VJ Edgecombe and Dominick Barlow. If he can maintain or even build on those numbers in the future, it’s safe to assume George will silence his haters in no time.
