Michael Porter Jr. becomes the first forward in NBA history to accomplish the insane feat

Michael Porter Jr. proves his detractors wrong after his trade to Brooklyn Nets. The 27-year-old has had the best start of his career with a rebuilding team. His last four-game stretch has him in thin air.

With his 34-point performance Friday in Dallas, Porter Jr. became the first forward in NBA history to score 30 points with five 3-pointers in four straight games. Only five other players have ever accomplished the feat: Stephen Curry, James Harden, Damian Lillard, Anthony Edwards and Gary Trent Jr.

After years in the shadow of Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray with Denver, Porter Jr. succeeded in the lead role with the Nets.

The 6-foot-10 shooter’s movement off the ball was the focal point of Brooklyn’s offense. Despite posting high career usage, he has maintained his high efficiency as a No. 1 option.

Porter Jr. averaged 25.6 points and 3.2 assists on .497/.399/.813 shooting. He is one of five players averaging at least 25 points on over 49 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent from three, joining Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Hot start for Nets forward put him alongside another all-time great recorder in the record books.

Porter Jr. and Kevin Durant are the only players in NBA history to score 525 points on over 50 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from three in their first 20 games with a team, according to OptaSTATS. Durant had success with three different teams (the Nets, the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns.
