Karl-Anthony Towns donated money to the NBA Cup Foundation
New York needed a minute to Karl-Anthony Towns to decide what to do with the money he won after they were captured NBA Cup trophy at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
Cities helped The New York Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 124-113to become the third tournament champion of the season.
Despite being hampered by a calf injury, Towns finished with a double-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. He shot 6 of 12 from the field.
With their victory, the Knicks players receive over half a million dollars each. But instead of keeping him, the 30-year-old Towns said he would pay it forward.
“Karl-Anthony Towns says he plans to donate his $530,000 from winning the NBA Cup to his foundation in the Dominican Republic to help financially struggling communities and families build homes,” ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel reported.
Townes’ late mother, Jacqueline Cruz, was from the Dominican Republic. The five-time All-Star has represented the aforementioned nation in international tournaments, including the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
The Knicks forward founded the KAT Team Foundation in 2017. It aims to expand educational opportunities and support underprivileged youth while advocating for autism awareness.
Cities have long been involved in civic engagementassisting the NBA in its social justice programs. Last year, he was awarded the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Champion of Social Justice Award for his persistent efforts.
While winning the NBA Cup was great feat for the Knicksfor Towns, it’s an even bigger win when everyone gets more opportunities.
