The Bulls are pushing back the envelope to trade Noah Essen
THE Bulls received a “Disabled Player Exemption” (DPE) of 2.7 million dollars to replace Noah Essenguepackage for the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury.
This exception counts toward half of the unavailable player’s salary: since the rookie is receiving $5.4 million this season, Chicago is making up $2.7 million to potentially sign the player.
The Bulls have until March 10th to take advantage of this “DPE.” Specifically, they can sign a free agent to a one-year contract of up to $2.7 million, or bring the player back via trade, or when they release him, provided he is free at the end of the season and his salary falls within this envelope.
It remains to be seen if Chicago will activate this leverage to bolster their rotation in the short term or if it will simply be a safety option in the event of a market opportunity…
