Stephen Curry hopes Klay Thompson will return to Golden State

18 months have passed since then Klay Thompson left the Warriors to continue his career with the Mavericks. A divorce followed two years of frustrationbetween contract negotiations not progressing, a lack of consideration compared to his teammates at the time, and the diminishing role of the “Splash Brother”.

97 games with Dallas later, the 35-year-old guard cheated his way out after 13 years in Golden State.

“What made my move to Dallas easier was that I was able to reinvent myself with a new number, a new team, a new experience”, confides. “Being in Dallas has given me the opportunity to reinvent myself and not hold on to the ghosts of the past that make us great. I’m in Dallas and I’m a lot calmer, whether I’m a starter or a replacement, because I’m going to play. I’m going to make an impact in my 15th season and that’s amazing.”

Until now, this past is also the glory of Klay Thompson, a four-time NBA champion with Golden State. Does he think his time there has been praised enough? “Only time will tell”he answers.

Stephen Curry will pick up the phone to arrange a return

But there is one that intends not to consign this age to the dustbin of history, and that is Stephen Curry. The playmaker especially does not want his former teammate to be forgotten in Golden State, under the pretext that the adventure with Steve Kerr and Draymond Green continues without him. Therefore, when Andre Iguodala’s jersey was retiredhe wanted Klay Thompson to be there, and for it to happen on the night of the Mavericks’ reception, so he wouldn’t be “steal the good memories of his 13 years”.

The all-time leading scorer is going further: He hopes the Warriors will offer him a one-day contract when the guard retires, symbolically ending his “Splash Brother” career with the Warriors. What if, instead of one day, he had one final season in California?

“I don’t know, it’s still far. There’s a lot of basketball left before that. I don’t know what the future holds.” answers Klay Thompson. “That would be crazy,” imagine DJ Stephen Curry. “If that time comes, that conversation happens, I’ll call him and tell him we want him back. I hope this will be a welcome message. But, for now, it remains a distant reality. Just like him going somewhere else.”
