What a ClutchPoints insider is hearing about the Lakers trade for Herb Jones

The The Los Angeles Lakers performed well so far in the 2025-26 NBA season, he is currently 18-7 heading into Thursday night’s game on the road against the Utah Jazz. Luka Dončić played throughout the season as a candidate for MVP, with LeBron James looks more like it himself in recent games since returning from injury.
However, there are still some sectors of the basketball world who think Los Angeles is far from true contention in the West. One key area of need because the Lakers are their perimeter defense, so it should come as no surprise that many have linked them to the New Orleans Pelicans wing Herb Joneswho is one of the best in the league in that department, and can knock down open threes on offense.
Recently, CluchPoints NBA Insider Brett Siegel reported on the latest information regarding Los Angeles’ potential interest in Jones.
“Herb Jones is certainly at the top of the Lakers’ trade list. He’s a player they would absolutely love to add to this team, and they see him as the best 3-and-D player potentially on the market right now,” Siegel said.
Perimeter defense was a major concern for the Lakers in their playoff loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves last year, with James and Rui Hachimura unable to make up for the predictable gap left by Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic on that end of the floor.
Jones would immediately give the Lakers one of the best wing defenders in the NBA, someone who can guard multiple positions and provide an offensive edge.
It remains to be seen exactly what the Lakers would have to give up to make the deal happen, but it would certainly be a bad trade for Los Angeles if it were to happen.
Los Angeles will next take the floor against the Jazz on Thursday at 9:00 PM ET.
