Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs have fun against the Wizards

Victor Wembanyama (Spurs) vs. WizardsSpurs took advantage of coming to town Wizards Thursday to forget their frustration NBA Cup Finals lost to the Knicks. Victor Wembanyama and his team easily dominated the main team, their fourth consecutive success since the match against the Knicks did not count in the regular season results.

Like in Las Vegas, Victor Vembanyama starts on the bench. And Mitch Johnson even made the choice, like in the semifinals against the Thunder, not to bring his star at all in the first quarter to save him.

This is not a problem for Stephen Castle etc Luke Cornetaggressive towards the circle at the start of the match. The observation also applies to Alec Sarr etc Kishawn George on the Wizards side, allowing the visitors to not let it get out of hand too soon. The Wizards do the elastic once (from 18-11 to 20-20), then twice, while the return Dylan Harper etc Keldon Johnson give impetus to the Spurs attack. Novak takes advantage of Washington’s lack of protection in the circle without Alex Sarr to give the Texans a nine-yard lead (34-25).

Vembanyama’s show makes the difference in the 3rd quarter

Victor Wembanyama came on after 15 minutes as the Wizards recovered from a slow start to the home side’s second quarter. Wemby lets the game come to him, and mostly works as a distributor (only two attempts, including a great layup, three assists and two blocks).

But Washington is holding its own, with the very good Alex Sara as the offensive leader. Toulouse, up 14 points at halftime, put up a good fight against San Antonio and held its team to no more than a possession or two behind, 57-53 for the Texans, at the buzzer.

DC players even briefly took control at the beginning of the third quarter (57-58) from a free throw Bilal Coulibaly otherwise very discreetly offensive. Devin Vassell Then De’Aaron Foxas clumsy as Bilal Coulibaly (6 points to 1/8), answering 3 points and Mitch Johnson taking the chains off his franchise player. As soon as he entered the game, Victor Wembanyama signs a big dunk and starts his match. His third quarter is a crazy action fest with “Wemby” sauce: a long shot to finally extend his team’s ten-point lead, a counter, then a coast-to-coast drive finished with a dunk and another counter on a defensive comeback. Center Frost Bank is delighted, and San Antonio is more comfortable with the score, +15 with another shot by the French just before the buzzer (91-75).

Washington is on a break and receives the last shots in the fourth quarter. San Antonio has been vocal on defense and Brian Keefe’s players can no longer find solutions.

Quite the opposite of Spurs, with an address away from Julian Champagneor the talent of Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle in the penetration. Victor Wembanyama adds the final touch of brilliance, a dunk after rounding George. 13-2 puts the Texans away for good.

WHAT TO REMEMBER

– 17 minutes was enough for Victor Vembanyama. Wanting to get his gem back without any risk, Mitch Johnson has pushed for reduced playing time so the Frenchman plays back-to-back tomorrow against Atlanta. So, Victor Wembanyama tried to make the most of his 17 minutes and 18 seconds of play with an obvious strike on both sides of the pitch. He finished with 15 points (6/11), 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks, but above all a significant +/- from his contribution when the Spurs took off in the second period.

– Dylan Harper impresses again. That basketball looks easy sometimes when Dylan Harper is on the floor. The Spurs rookie set a new career high with 24 points, shooting 9/13 without forcing a foul, including an interesting 3/5 from 3-point range, in just 23 minutes of play. The second pick of the last draft is well and truly established as the “sixth starter” on this team. Especially since everyone got in on the fun with 18 points for Devin Vassell or 17 for Stephon Castle.

– Spurs distance themselves. Houston’s surprise loss to New Orleans allows San Antonio to be two wins ahead of the Rockets in fourth place in the Western Conference, tied with the Lakers in third. Interesting mattress because there are two games against the Thunder.
